“Fetishes” by Nick Broomfield

My other half and I curled up last night and watched the indie documentary Fetishes last night.

It was absolutely fascinating and I was absorbed from the first second to the last.

Whilst pain and humiliation are not my own personal interest, I was taken aback by the overall sensuality of some of the play, and the pleasure that the clients were so obviously experiencing.

Hallowe’een Hoedown

Ok, so Hallowe’een is actually today, and technically tonight should be the night for ghosties and ghouls, but as I have work tomorrow (pfffft!) I needed to go out to play last night to make the most of the thirteenth hour!

All started well; Medusa managed to just about totter over the Air in Worcester (Broad Street), purchase a lovely shot or two from the fabulous t*girl barmaid Luci and settle down for a night of Thriller, Ghostbusters and dancing.

Good times!

Now there are a couple of things that you should know about Air. Air is a great little bar in Worcester which is run by a gay couple; M and D,  and is for everyone. They want to promote a uniting of elements to make a bar in Worcester that is truly open to everyone and an angels and demons Hallowe’en Hoe’down should have been a perfect place to start.

Shame really that Worcester rather let itself down.

As a group of guys and one girl staggered in it was evident that they had had rather a lot to drink; they were drinking shots, babbling excitedly and had eyes on stalks as they surveyed the other party-goers in Air. Two of our hosts for the evening were t*girl Diva’s Ms Luci and Ms Janice, both are fabulous, and very feisty, so when the boys at the table realised that they were ‘just jocks in frocks’ and ‘obviously a bunch of f*&%$ing poofs’ words swiftly ensued.  Things were escalated, and the bouncer immediately gave a warning which was broken.

Now I cannot profess to have heard it all, but as I stood outside taking a drag on my cigarette, I did over hear a few of the comments as they were unceremoniously removed from the bar; ‘I’m more of a woman than she’ll ever be’ was professed by the girl of the group who seemed to have taken most personally that there was a ‘jock in a frock’ was in there looking rather stunning, along with ‘this is a gay bar for gay people, there’s nothing for us here’ yelled over and over until the guy in question turned round and started ogling one of the other girls in a corset and shouting ‘ nice knockers you gothy s**g’.

Lovely, and who said that charm and charisma were dead?!

It was all over within about 10 minutes (the police were called and the group were quickly dispersed to another bar in town) and was handled expertly by the bouncer & the staff, and supported by the majority of the people in the bar and outside on the street. We turned back to our drinks, rolled our eyes and continued our night to its happy conclusion.

But as I sit here in bed with my coffee, croissants and laptop I am left with an uncomfortable feeling which is more than just sore feet…

Is Worcester really ready for a bar for ‘everyone’ where drinkers of all shapes, sizes and sexuality blend together like a good old-fashioned roasted coffee?

Do people who emphatically do NOT want to open their minds and see that there are people different from them have a right to know about the bar that they are entering?

Its it naive to think that really people should be ready and open to everything? And how can these sections of society be better supported in opening their eyes?

At worst, how to best inform them that this is probably not the place for them and ensure that visitors to such places (including my little home for coffee and kink lovers) are not there for just the freak factor…

Questions, questions, questions…

Mission Mantra

I am starting my research into business strategies, plans and models… Scary stuff!

I have tried to break down what seems like a mountain into some little mole-hills to hike over…

My first step is to pull together my clean and simple mission statements…

The mission is the operation’s statement about why it exists, and sets the tone of what the company and its products’ image should be at the very highest level of the operation ~ Dawn Thilmany, Ph.D

I find writing these thoughts of things very difficult because by nature, I am an intense soul and tend towards sounding pretentious or disingenuous but my first thoughts are that it should be along the lines of:

A place promoting freedom of sensuality, sexuality and individuality where we serve more than just coffee and cake, but share support, ideas and creativity. Somewhere that can be the hub of our small, but growing, community of liberated hearts and minds. Somewhere to kick-back, relax and be inspired to be nothing more, nor less that the person you want to be.

I am sure that this will change over the courses of time and, like a fine wine, get better with age!

(Tr)Ann(s) Summers?

A colleague of mine invited me to an Ann Summers party today… I have never really got to the bottom of how I feel about Ann Summers so I’ll see how my thoughts go when I put virtual pen to paper…

The thing is that there is so much to like, and not to like about Ann Summers…

On the one hand, it is a company run by, promoted by and very much focussed on women. Jackie Gold is an inspiration to me for her strong business sense, her drive and in many ways her bravery in tackling a lifestyle element previously considered so sordid. Having a shop in the centre of Worcester for women and couples (and of course men) to pop into of a lunch break and by something just a little bit naughty can only be a good thing surely?

The thing is that I cannot help finding myself deeply disappointed and frustrated as I wander around the store. The girls in our shop here are great… friendly without being pushy and seem to be fairly knowledgeable when sharing views on the latest rampant rabbit, but there’s just something missing…

And I think that for me, it is the quality of the products.

Now dont judge me if I sound snobbish. It’s not that I want my clothes or lube to be somehow more exclusive than anyone else’s (although I must confess that I do prefer to be more unique and individual than not) but I do want the things I slip into to make me feel like a million dollars. And to be honest they just dont do it for me. G-strings I have bought never seem to last long, they get a bit frayed, and can look a bit sad after not so long… Also, no matter how carefully I look after my bra’s they never hold their shape, nor wash well. Books I have perused (I must confess I havent acutally bought anything from there) seem to be very much aimed at the mainstream market, and some of the DVDs have been, well… laughable.

But one thing I am curious about is the parties… I have never been to one; the idea of a party being hosted pretty much with the focus being on buying sexy stuff with ones friends just doesnt appeal to me. Partly because I have never liked nor responded well to pressure, and also because few of the items I have bought from Ann Summers have ever really stood the test of time; there is one exception however – their bullet vibrator is small, sexy and for me, simply fabulous.

But what about hosting them? Now, perhaps there is something in that; less for the money, more for the fun and the experience?

As I tottered my way home from work and smoked a cheeky cigarette, I thought about all of my tgirl friends and how much they would love the chance to have a girlie evening, looking and and trying out all those toys and outfits that they wouldnt normally have the chance to get up close and personal with over a glass of wine. Once I did get home, I started investigating Ann Summers parties for the transgender community and with no more than a little search realised that whilst there appears to be rather a high level of interest in these evenings, there was no clear advertising nor linking to a transgender friendly party organiser…

Cue my investigations via the Ann Summers website…

I have signed up to be interested in being a party organiser so as to find out what it entails and what engagement there is with the transgender community; whether there are any tgirl organisers, specific parties which are organised, any relevant contacts to chat to and if not why not?

Welcome traveller…

… and welcome to my little home offering Coffee Cups of Kink. Take off your shoes, recline in a plumf-cious sofa and sip your coffee as you begin…

I’m a 20 something girlie who currently lives and works in Worcester, and is bored, frustrated in her job and would like to revamp her  life.

I stumbled across Coffee, Cake and Kink a fabulous coffee shop which was previously located in Covent Garden, London. This fantastic little Lewis Carroll Wardrobe into a relaxed, erotica-centred community world really captured my imagination.

I love almost everything about it – the books, the coffee and most particularly the community elements, with the exception of its location – London… Pffft, land of the busy, exciting, bright lights… the big smoke… shame I cant nip there for a coffee myself…

It got me thinking; is it really only the capital that can support such a venue? Could there be a little place for somewhere like this in the historical city of Worcester? What if… and ooh what about selling this… or that… I could… I could…

I have a dream (a recurring one actually, that I find myself daydreaming at work) that I could get up, open my own wee shop and if I could share even a modicum of such wonderousness I would be a very happy young lady. It will give me a reason to buy all those beautiful things I see online, and share with others a place to kick back, relaz and unwind. I also want to give something to the community in which I live and love.

So here I am, sharing what I hope to be a little journey through to re-vamp (and I hope quite literally!) my life. I want to record the ups, the downs, the choices and the decisions and document how and where I go and how I get there.

I imagine that there will be a whole host of facets to this blog; sometimes I will be sharing potential places in Worcester that inspire me, others may be reviews of books I love, ideas I have and how I am doing in my travels to get better experiences and equip myself for a world of coffee, cups, kink and community.

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. (Douglas Adams)
